Westminster City Councilman Sergio Contreras hosted the third annual Day of Service Honoring Those Who Served just days before Veterans Day, by accepting nominations for Distinguished Westminster Veterans.

The event featured a ceremony to recognize local veterans nominated by their peers, following a community cleanup of Liberty Park and a portion of Westminster Boulevard.

“Veterans are an important part of this community,” Councilman Contreras said. “Events like these give us all a platform to honor the sacrifices that our service members and their families have made for all of us. By joining the awards with a community street clean up we are showing respect for the homeland our ceterans fought to protect with their honorable service in the armed forces.”

The event included a community clean up of Liberty Park and a portion of Westminster Boulevard.

The winners of the Distinguished Westminster Veterans awards Andy Timco (U.S. Army), Danny R. Hansen (U.S. Marine Corps), Ronald Taylor (U.S. Marine Corps), Bob Harris (U.S. Marine Corps), and Jesse “Bulldog” Gonzales (U.S. Marine Corps).

“Thank you to these heroes and all our veterans for their brave, unwavering service to our country. May their sacrifices to preserving this great nation never be forgotten,” Contreras said.
